The county is divided into the 5 Municipal Districts of Wexford, Rosslare, Gorey-Kilmuckridge, New Ross and Enniscorthy with the local authority administrative headquarters located in Wexford Town. Wexford is situated in the South-East of Ireland and shares its border with four other counties and has a total land area of 2,367 km2, Wexford is the 13th largest county of Ireland, and the 9th largest in terms of population. Wexford has a long coastline and with the recent investment in the two motorways is closely located to the urban centres of Dublin and Waterford which are within 90 minutes and 45 Minutes commute distance respectively. Wexford County Council’s estimated Revenue Budget for 2025 is €175m and the planned Capital Investment programme for 2024 is €120m. Wexford County Council is one of the county’s major employers, currently employing approximately 900 staff with 450 retired personnel. Wexford County Council provides a diverse, comprehensive and evolving range of services to citizens, businesses and visitors to the county. An opportunity now exists in Wexford County Council for the position of Senior Planner. Local authorities serve as vibrant and innovative Planning Authorities at the heart of delivering Project Ireland 2040. The role of Senior Planner in a local authority is an excellent opportunity to engage with the active delivery of strategic policy across Development Management, Forward Planning and Project Delivery and contribute to a multi-disciplinary approach to Climate Action and Sustainable Transport. The Senior Planner will be required to work closely with the Senior Management Team and elected Members to deliver the full range of services, implement local policy decisions and deliver on strategic corporate objectives and in accordance with the general policy direction of the elected council at both full Council and Area Committee level. At National level the new Planning and Development Act, 2024 will provide a key benchmark for the planning authority.
