Galway City Council consists of 18 Members elected every five years, the most recent local elections having taken place in 2019. The city is divided into 3 electoral areas, Galway City East, Galway City Central, and Galway City West Ward. At a strategic level, the Council operate through its Corporate Policy Group comprising of the Mayor of the Council and the Chairs of the local authority’s six Strategic Policy Committees. The Chief Executive and the Council’s Management Team play a key role in supporting and advising this policy group. An opportunity now exists in Galway City Council for the position of Senior Executive Planner. This position is a senior position within the Planning function reporting to a Senior Planner and/or other employee nominated by the Chief Executive. The Senior Executive Planner is responsible for managing elements of the Planning function and providing a multiplicity of services to the local authority. This is a great opportunity to join Galway City Council at a time of transformation. Reporting to the appropriate line manager, the Senior Executive Planner will be responsible for the efficient management of their prescribed work area within the Planning and aligned functions. This is a management role and managers at this level work within defined parameters relevant to the position, in accordance with the Local Authority’s vision and objectives. The Senior Executive Planner will be required to work closely with elected Councillors on both policy formulation and implementation. Managers at this grade are responsible for managing a multi-disciplinary team of staff and delivering services in a dynamically changing environment where delivery of efficient services and value for money is crucial.
