Graduate Land Use Planner – TII

Transport Infrastructure Ireland intends to hold a competition for the appointment to the position of GRADUATE LAND USE PLANNER
Closing date: 12 (noon) Thursday, 26th June 2025.

Role Overview:
This role involves responsibilities in relation to land use planning, in connection with TII’s activities whilst also supporting staff in the delivery of TII projects and operations. The post holder will report to the Head of Land Use Planning. This role will provide support and training to build expertise in land use planning through actively participating in a variety of projects and initiatives.

ROLE, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work to assist in the strengthening of procedures for the management of the TII’s involvement in the land use planning and development process, taking account of the TII’s role as statutory consultee in responding to applications for planning permission and development planning.
• Support TII’s development management function.
• Advise, facilitate, support (and when deemed appropriate initiate activity in) other TII sections in relation to policy formulation and projects as they interface with the land use planning system.
• Develop, liaise, and maintain productive relationships with relevant Government Departments, regional authorities, local authorities, National Transport Authority, and other state agencies in relation to land use planning and transportation.
• Participate in communication of the role and policy of the TII in land use planning and development.
• Assist in facilitating consistent quality and continuous improvement in the services provided by the Land Use Planning Section.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues and all stakeholders to ensure optimum results in line with TII Strategic Priorities.

All the divisions within TII have dependent responsibilities and close cooperation, collaboration and teamwork are required across the whole organisation to meet tight deadlines.
Note: The functions and responsibilities assigned to this position are based on the current stated role and may be changed from time to time. The person appointed will be required to demonstrate the flexibility necessary to fulfil other roles and responsibilities at a similar grade within TII.

 

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
Character
Each candidate must be of good character.

Health
A candidate for and any person holding the role must be fully competent and capable of undertaking duties attached to the role and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Education & Experience

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate the key competencies for a Grade 3 position, as well as the following experience and job-specific requirements:
•A Degree or 3rd level professional qualification (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) in Planning which is accredited by the Irish Planning Institute or Royal Town Planning Institute.
o If you are a final year student in a level 8 degree in Planning course and due to complete your studies this year, you will be able to apply, but you will be required to provide proof of having achieved the degree before   employment can commence.
• Experience in research, data analysis, or report writing.
• Familiarity with the Irish planning system and law.
• A collaborative mindset and effective relationship management ability.
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skill
• A good understanding of, or the ability to quickly learn in the public sector working environment.
• Understanding of the strategic function of the national roads network and light rail network and of strategies for its improvement.
• Familiarity with evaluating principles of transport and land use associated with development proposals.
• Fluency in English, both written and oral.
