Funding commitment on Climate Action welcomed

 The Institute of Planning in Ireland (IPI) has today warmly welcomed the announcement of the first tranches of investment under the Government’s new Climate Action Fund, as part of Project Ireland 2040.

IPI President Joe Corr said “climate action is one of the prime elements guiding effective planning and one that the IPI has long advocated be more central in plan making and investment. The National Planning Framework (NPF) published earlier this year formally recognised that need. It is encouraging to see that intent being followed up quickly through the investment under Ireland 2040”.

The seven projects funded include the development of District Heating Systems in the Poolbeg, Ringsend and Docklands areas of Dublin city and in Tallaght being developed by Dublin City and South Dublin County Councils respectively.

“These projects which involve the provision of piped heat to both residential and commercial customers are exactly the type of future looking initiatives that the planning community is now championing – an efficient use of resources factoring in common good.”

“These first commitments under the Climate Action Plan set the example for others to follow. We would strongly urge local authorities and the implementation agencies to look at the outcomes here are consider what similar impacts they could deliver with similar applications in future rounds”
