The Irish Planning Institute (IPI), the all-island professional membership organisation for spatial planners, has welcomed the appointment of Peter Mullan as Chairperson of An Bord Pleanála.

Gavin Lawlor, President of the Irish Planning Institute said: “On behalf of our members who work as planners across the planning system I would like to congratulate Peter Mullan on his appointment as Chairperson of An Bord Pleanála. We wish him well in his new role. A fully functioning and resourced An Bord Pleanála is critical to addressing its significant caseload and backlog of files in a rigorous and timely way. With significant changes to planning legislation being brought forward, including how the Board operates, alongside pressures on housing and infrastructure, it remains essential that An Bord Pleanála make high quality and efficient planning decisions in accordance with proper planning and sustainable development.”
