The next edition of Pleanáil – the Journal of the Irish Planning Institute – and Student Pleanáil will be published in December 2018. Abstracts for articles for Pleanáil and entries for Student Pleanáil are now invited.  

The Irish Planning Institute Journal Pléanail is published in December each year. The next edition will be published in December 2018. Abstracts for articles for Pléanail are now invited. 

The journal is now inviting abstracts for papers which are relevant to those working across the broad field of planning and which make a contribution to debates both in Ireland and internationally. Reviews of books, materials and resources that may be of interest to planners may also be considered. Abstracts from contributors who are not professional planners are welcome.

In recognition of the effort that is required in order to prepare such an article, a modest honorarium will be paid for contributions accepted by the editorial group and published in Pleanáil 2019. Please send abstracts of no more than 250 words to [email protected] by 3rd September 2018 for consideration. 

Abstracts will be reviewed and contributors contacted by 17th September 2018.

All papers submitted on the basis of accepted abstracts will be required to conform to the requirements below. Please note we cannot accept papers which do not conform strictly to the requirements.

Pleanáil Article Requirements

All submitted articles must conform with the following:

• Abstracts and final articles should be emailed to [email protected].
• Submitted articles can be up to 10,000 words in length (excluding bibliography). Articles which exceed the length will be returned to the author(s).
• A sans serif font (e.g. Arial) should be used, size 12. 
• All submitted articles should be single spaced. 
• For reproduction purposes black & white images are required and should be supplied separately as jpeg or png files as well as being inserted in the text. If colour images are submitted they should be in a format suitable for conversion to B&W, without loss of definition. For editorial reasons the Institute cannot guarantee that images will be reproduced in colour.
• All articles should be sent in Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) format. PDFs cannot be accepted.
• Harvard Referencing Style should be used to cite work which is not the author’s own. 
• All authors are asked to submit a brief (100 words maximum) biographical note and photograph. Articles which are not accompanied by these at time of submission will be returned to the author(s).
