Home / About Us / Code of Conduct CODE OF CONDUCT (CONSUMER PROTECTION) All members of the Irish Planning Institute must comply with our Code of Conduct. The Institute will consider complaints received in writing from members of the public regarding the professional conduct of members. The Irish Planning Institute cannot deal with complaints against planners who are not members of the Institute. Following adoption at the AGM of 7 December 2023 a revised Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and separate procedures for enforcement proceedings and disciplinary action came into effect on 1 January 2024. About Complaints The Institute considers complaints about the professional conduct of members only, in line with the Institute’s Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The Institute cannot review or change planning decisions, act as an appeal body, or investigate planning authorities, public bodies, or the planning system itself. If your concern relates to a planning decision, planning authority procedures, or how the system operates, another organisation may be more appropriate. This may include the Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) (systemic planning issues), An Coimisiún Pleanála (planning appeals), the Office of the Ombudsman (administrative matters), or, in Northern Ireland, for more information on making a planning related complaint to the local council or the Department for Infrastructure click here.
