Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council was established in 1994 and is part of the Dublin Region. There are 40 Elected Members and a staff complement of over 1,100.  It is home to 233,457 people in over 78,600 households.  The County has both the lowest unemployment rate and the highest level of educational attainment of any County in the State as well as a unique array of economic activities that span from existing cultural, technological and educational establishments – including UCD, IADT and IMI – to high tech, pharmaceutical, financial and services sectors. It also has significant potential as an amenity and tourism destination for the Region both for Dublin residents and visitors.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council performs a significant role in shaping the strategic vision of the County. It provides a diverse, comprehensive and evolving range of services to citizens, businesses and visitors to the County which include the provision of housing, planning, development, environmental, transportation, leisure and community services.

Vacancies now exist in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council for experienced staff at Senior Executive Planner level.

This position is a senior position within the County Council  reporting to the Senior Planner and Director and/or other employee nominated by the Chief Executive.    The Senior Executive Planner is responsible for managing elements of the Planning Authority and providing a multiplicity of services to Local Authorities across a number of Departments.


Local authorities serve as vibrant and innovative Planning Authorities at the heart of delivering Project Ireland 2040. The role of Senior Executive Planner in a local authority is an excellent opportunity to engage with the active delivery of strategic policy across Development Management, Forward Planning and Project Delivery and contribute to a multi-disciplinary approach to Climate Action and Sustainable Transport.

The Senior Executive Planner will be required to work closely with the Senior Management Team and Elected Members to deliver the full range of services, implement local policy decisions and deliver on strategic corporate objectives and in accordance with the general policy direction of the elected council.
