Call for Nominations to the Board of Directors and AGM Motions – October 2026 Posted on October 6, 2026October 6, 2026 by Seán O'Leary Call for nominations – Nominations are now open for election to the IPI Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for the overall governance, leadership and strategic direction of the Institute. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to contribute to the future of the planning profession, help shape the Institute’s priorities, and work with colleagues from across the sector. In accordance with the Institute’s Constitution, up to nine Registered Members and Fellows are elected by the membership to serve as Directors. The Board may also appoint up to two independent (non-planner) Directors to complement the skills and experience of the elected Board. Who can stand? Candidates for election must be a Registered Member or Fellow of the Institute in good standing at the close of nominations. Nominations must be supported by two Registered Members or Fellows in good standing, other than the candidate. Registered Members and Fellows in good standing are entitled to vote in the election. What does the Board do? Directors are collectively responsible for the governance, oversight and long-term success of the Institute. Board Members act in the interests of the Institute as a whole and do not represent any particular employer, sector or constituency. The Board meets regularly throughout the year, primarily in a hybrid format. Directors may also serve as office holders, committee chairs, or lead specific areas of the Institute’s work. There is no remuneration for serving on the Board, but reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out Board duties are reimbursed. Term of office Directors are elected for a two-year term and may seek re-election in accordance with the Institute’s Constitution. To support continuity and renewal, Board positions rotate on an annual basis, with around half of the elected Board positions becoming vacant each year. This year, four elected Board positions are open for election. We encourage Registered Members and Fellows from all sectors and backgrounds of the profession to consider standing for election and helping to shape the future direction of the Institute.
