Call for Nominations to the Board of Directors and AGM Motions – October 2026

Posted on October 6, 2026October 6, 2026 by Seán O'Leary

Call for nominations – Nominations are now open for election to the IPI Board of Directors.

The Board is responsible for the overall governance, leadership and strategic direction of the Institute. Serving on the Board is an opportunity to contribute to the future of the planning profession, help shape the Institute’s priorities, and work with colleagues from across the sector.

In accordance with the Institute’s Constitution, up to nine Registered Members and Fellows are elected by the membership to serve as Directors. The Board may also appoint up to two independent (non-planner) Directors to complement the skills and experience of the elected Board.

Who can stand?

Candidates for election must be a Registered Member or Fellow of the Institute in good standing at the close of nominations. Nominations must be supported by two Registered Members or Fellows in good standing, other than the candidate.

Registered Members and Fellows in good standing are entitled to vote in the election.

What does the Board do?

Directors are collectively responsible for the governance, oversight and long-term success of the Institute. Board Members act in the interests of the Institute as a whole and do not represent any particular employer, sector or constituency.

The Board meets regularly throughout the year, primarily in a hybrid format. Directors may also serve as office holders, committee chairs, or lead specific areas of the Institute’s work.

There is no remuneration for serving on the Board, but reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out Board duties are reimbursed.

Term of office

Directors are elected for a two-year term and may seek re-election in accordance with the Institute’s Constitution. To support continuity and renewal, Board positions rotate on an annual basis, with around half of the elected Board positions becoming vacant each year.

This year, four elected Board positions are open for election. We encourage Registered Members and Fellows from all sectors and backgrounds of the profession to consider standing for election and helping to shape the future direction of the Institute.

Call for motions

In accordance with the Institute’s Constitution, notice of any motion to be placed before the AGM must be received by the Company Secretary no later than four weeks before the AGM and must be signed by at least two Members of the Institute entitled to vote.

For the 2026 AGM, motions should be submitted electronically to [email protected] no later than Thursday 12 November 2026.

Key Dates

  • Close of nominations: 4pm Monday 26 October 2026
  • Deadline for AGM motions: Thursday 12 November 2026
  • Online voting: November 2026
  • Results announced at the AGM: Thursday 10 December 2026
  • First meeting of the incoming Board: immediately following AGM, Thursday 10 December 2026

How to nominate

To stand for election, candidates must submit:

  • A completed nomination form including signatures from two Registered Members or Fellows in good standing and the signed statement confirming willingness to serve if elected.
  • Candidates may also submit an optional statement (maximum 150 words) in support of their candidature. Any such statement will be circulated with the ballot papers and must be submitted with the nomination papers.

Closing Date

Completed nominations should be emailed to [email protected] or posted to the Institute to arrive no later than 4pm on Monday 26 October 2026.
