Guidance Note: Completing Your CPD Log

As per our Membership Bye-Laws, completion of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a mandatory requirement in applying for Registered Membership. Applicants must complete the required number of CPD hours as outlined in the Bye-Laws and record all activities using the CPD log below.

Instructions for completing your CPD log

  • Date & Time
Record the date when you completed the activity. If it was over multiple days, note the start and end dates. Log the approximate time spent on the activity.
  • Activity / Learning Description
Give a brief description of the activity, providing the title of the activity, for example: “Attended development management webinar hosted by the Irish Planning Institute.”
Provide the number of CPD credits awarded to this activity. Most CPD activities attract one credit per hour of new or enhanced learning achieved. Certain IPI activities may have an assigned CPD value.
  • Learning Outcomes / Skills Gained
Identify what you learned or how your skills improved. Focus on tangible takeaways. It is important to note which core competencies, as set out in the Education Guidelines, were addressed.
  • Evidence / Notes
Provide supporting documentation such as certificates or booking confirmations when submitting your CPD record alongside your other application documentation.

The CPD Log Template to complete and submit with your application can be downloaded here.
