Senior Planner

Join the team

At Purser, we work on projects that shape places, the environment and communities. Projects where your thinking matters and your contribution is visible.

Purser is a planning-led consultancy operating throughout Ireland. We integrate planning, environmental and design expertise. We help clients navigate complexity, manage risk and make better decisions throughout the development journey.

We work as part of our clients’ teams, bringing together specialist expertise to give projects clear direction and help make the best projects possible.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Planner who can lead complex planning projects, provide trusted professional advice and take real ownership of client relationships and project delivery.

You will work closely with Purser’s Directors, clients and multidisciplinary teams across a varied portfolio of development projects, helping define planning strategy, resolve key issues and maintain clear direction throughout the development journey.

This is a role for someone who can see the whole project, identify what matters, exercise sound professional judgement and give clients and project teams confidence in the way forward.

As a Senior Planner, you will:

  • Lead complex planning projects and planning strategy from feasibility and pre-planning through application, consent and delivery.
  • Provide trusted professional advice to clients on planning strategy, policy, risk and the appropriate way forward.
  • Prepare and critically review high-quality planning reports, submissions and applications.
  • Lead multidisciplinary project teams and coordinate planning, design, environmental and technical inputs.
  • Lead meetings and manage important client relationships, representing Purser confidently with local authorities, An Coimisiún Pleanála and other stakeholders.
  • Manage project quality, programme, scope, risk and client expectations.
  • Review the work of others and provide clear technical direction and constructive feedback.
  • Delegate effectively and support the development of junior colleagues.
  • Identify commercial risks and contribute to the efficient and successful delivery of projects.
  • Contribute to knowledge sharing, technical development and the continued growth of the practice.

What we’re looking for

You should have:

  • A degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Typically 5+ years’ relevant professional experience within the Irish planning system.
  • Corporate Membership of the Irish Planning Institute (MIPI) and/or Chartered Membership of the RTPI (MRTPI), or equivalent professional standing.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish planning law, policy and statutory procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, strategic and report-writing capability.
  • Proven experience leading planning projects and coordinating multidisciplinary teams.
  • The ability to manage client relationships, priorities and project delivery with a high degree of independence.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone with strong professional judgement, leadership and ownership – someone who can identify what matters, provide trusted advice, take responsibility for complex projects and give clients and project teams confidence in the way forward.
