Building on discussions at the UCC Planning Society’s Conference in March, the series brings together leading practitioners and researchers to examine three key frameworks shaping transport planning practice in Ireland and internationally: CONUNDRUM (an Irish research initiative led by UCD and TCD that empowers local communities to co-create sustainable transport solutions), Area-Based Transport Assessments / Local Transport Plans (ABTA/LTPs), and Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs). Each session will provide both an introduction to the framework and a practical exploration of its application, drawing on real-world experience, case studies, and the current policy context. Schedule 13:00-14:00 Thursday, 11 June 2026 CONUNDRUM Speaker: Dean Phelan (UCD) An introduction to the CONUNDRUM methodology and its role in shaping sustainable transport planning approaches, including insights into its development and practical application. 13:00-14:00 Thursday, 18 June 2026 Area-Based Transport Assessments / Local Transport Plans (ABTA/LTPs) Speakers: Julia Guilbaith and Dhruv Kadam (National Transport Authority) This session will explore the evolving role of ABTAs and LTPs in the Irish planning system, focusing on their statutory footing, implementation challenges, and opportunities to deliver integrated, place-based transport solutions. 13:00-14:00 Thursday, 25 June 2026 Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) Speaker: Mattias Juhász (DBFL Consulting Engineers) Drawing on international experience, this session will examine SUMPs as a strategic framework for sustainable transport planning, highlighting practical lessons and case study examples.
