We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Planner to join the Savills Planning team, supporting and driving forward the provision of Savills’ services across Ireland.

The successful candidate/s would be providing planning services to a wide range of clients across the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The team’s reach is particularly diverse, with a wide variety of clients, spanning landowners, developers, housebuilders, investors, public sector, and major corporates.

Based in our Head Office on Molesworth Street, you will work closely with colleagues in other teams including Development, Building and Project Consultancy, Retail, Offices, Industrial, Hotels, New Homes, Property Management, and Investments.

The Savills Ireland Planning team forms part of a network of planning expertise provided across Ireland and the UK. Savills has operated the largest planning consultancy division in the UK for several years with over 200 chartered planners operating from over 20 offices.  This ensures that Savills can provide industry leading planning expertise in every specialist property field to meet a client’s need.

This role is targeted at candidates with an interest in broadening their experience of planning and being closely involved with interesting projects and clients. Key requirements are:

·        an enjoyment of writing, with excellent language skills and a love of communicating planning arguments;

·        a proven ability to multi-task, across many projects, helping to steer the team’s workload, managing projects capably; and

·        a willingness and enthusiasm for mentoring and guiding junior planning and graduate level colleagues.

Typically your role will involve managing your own workload under the supervision of the Director and undertaking planning research and enquiries, monitoring and reviewing development plans and preparing representations to address issues with practical implications on our clients’ properties, drafting reports and planning applications, the day to day running of applications, assisting with the coordination of project teams and liaising with local authorities and others.

Key Responsibilities

·        Assist team leader in driving key projects forward

·        Opportunity provided to win new instructions, alongside servicing existing instructions

·        Prepare client briefing notes and thought leadership pieces

·        Project Management of planning instructions

·        Supervision of junior colleagues and the potential for a mentor role

·        Undertake research and analysis

·        Prepare planning appraisals of land, buildings and concepts

·        Prepare planning reports and planning applications including planning statements

·        Write reports, interpreting data and making clear and relevant recommendations

·        Contribute to the preparation/editing other planning supporting documents

·        Liaise and negotiate with planning officers, employees of consultee organisations, third parties

·        Participate in any relevant planning appeals

·        Manage site search exercises and rezoning requests

·        Liaise and cultivate good relationships with clients and fellow professionals

·        Have the potential to deal with instructions and clients (with support)

·        Have the potential to identify new business opportunities (again with support)

In addition to the tasks described above, the job holder may be required to carry out other duties as may reasonably be required from time to time.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience in:

  • Pitching and winning new private sector instructions
  • Public sector tendering requirements
  • Masterplanning and residential development
Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Existing Senior Planners or Planners ready to assume a greater level of responsibility
  • 5+ years’ post-graduate experience in planning

·        Chartered planner (RTPI or IPI) or working towards chartership

·        Detailed knowledge of the planning and governmental systems in the Republic of Ireland

·        Proactively manages clients’ needs and expectations

·        Demonstrates ability to manage own and others time in order to contribute to personal fee-earning targets and team profit

·        Has own network of clients and ability to share this with other teams in Savills

·        Understands clients’ organisational structures and decision making process

·        Demonstrates an understanding of Savills’ objectives and the overall strategy needed to attain these goals

·        Has a strong awareness of the external market and uses it to see new and different possibilities Continuous Improvement (openness to and facilitation of improvements to business processes)

·        Delegates work as appropriate

·        Learns from and shares different working styles and methods
