Senior Town Planner

RPS is seeking to recruit a qualified Senior Town Planner with proven professional experience in all areas of planning.

You can be based from our Dublin, Cork or Galway offices and we offer hybrid working.

Our Planning work profile is currently focused on large multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects, commercial and mixed-use developments, in addition to large scale residential developments. We also provide professional planning consultancy services to Statutory Bodies and Local Authorities. Our team comprises highly experienced Town Planners and with that comes excellent mentoring and career progression opportunities.

About The Role:

Under the direction and supervision of a Director of Planning, a Senior Town Planner will be expected to provide professional and technical assistance on a diverse range of projects and will be expected to meet and liaise with clients to ensure successful project delivery. The role offers opportunities to work as part of a team on prestigious and large-scale infrastructure projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support more senior staff on a range of projects, using initiative in doing so
  • Collate, analyse and interpret a range of socio-economic, demographic, policy and related material
  • Write reports summarising analysis, findings and provide clear reasoned advice
  • Regularly be required to solve problems and develop innovative solutions
  • Attend meetings with clients / planning authorities and other stakeholders as a representative of RPS and liaise directly with other professionals pursuant to effective management and conduct of projects
  • Support tender preparation and other business development initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with RPS Quality Assurance procedures
  • Provide supervision to more junior staff and assist in their professional development
  • Plan your work and from time to time that of others on a weekly basis

Coordinate and manage projects including:

  • preparing and submitting planning applications
  • preparing planning appeals
  • site appraisals
  • planning policy reviews
  • analysis and research related to planning policy
  • co-ordination of environmental assessments

About You:

  • The candidate must possess a recognised qualification in Town Planning (IPI and/or RTPI Accredited)
  • Have at least 7 years of satisfactory experience in town planning, after attaining the qualification
  • Experience of liaising with clients and providing advice on planning matters
  • Excellent working knowledge of planning, development and environmental issues
  • Ability to conduct independent research and analyse and interpret results; ability to prepare reports and formulate recommendations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Written and oral communication skills necessary include: public presentation skills and planning and organisational skills
  • Demonstrate the enthusiasm and initiative to be a well-rounded town planner

Essential Requirements:

  • Professionally qualified or chartered (Member of IPI and/or RTPI)
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in town planning
  • Technically proficient
  • Project management experience of small to medium projects / Experience of leading small to medium sized projects
  • Meets appraisal goals
  • Delivery of tasks on time and to budget
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
